I also learned this about braid on RVR. Last year in December in 70' of water, my buddy was getting hits on his Binski. Meanwhile, I was getting nothing but he was on mono, and I was on braid. Made the switch and started bringing them in. You wouldn't think it would make a big difference that deep, but it did and I haven't used braid on RVR since.
