Shimano and Daiwa rods and reels are what I use. Nothing too expensive, freshwater isn't an extremely abusive enviroment. As long as the drag is smooth and you can cast/work the baits and lures you intend to use with it, your set. Spool up with 8 or 10 lb. mono. No need to use 4 lb. test on anything except an ultralight. Good luck.
