Pompton Piggies

Made a weekend out of it and hit Pompton Lake (Main Lake) Sat 2-6 pm. Got one yellow perch and a big fat belly 24 inch pickerel. Pompton Lake Beast! I thought it was a pike by the way it was fighting.
Today I hit the back part of the lake early and landed 2 yellow perch and 2 largemouth including my best of the year at 2.4 lbs. The smaller bass hit a natural color ribbon tail worm t-rigged in the weeds, big boy smacked a kinchou shad off a shallow point.
Even made it home to see the 2nd half of Eagles beating the Skins. ;) Great weekend!

Looks like a nice day on the water!

I don't know about you guys in general but I hate catching pickerel, they are a good fight but they always jack up my line and i've lost too many hooks/lures from them cutting my line with their chompers. Always a pain to remove the hook too, especially from a kayak (which is what i've been fishing from lately).

Fantastic fishing Fred! I know that body of water. Some seriously large serpents reside in that river lake system! Glad ya found a few!!! :D

i Caught three pickerel there one day ice fishing with Fast Eddie and everyone was a beast! I swore everyone was a pike till i saw it. I couldn't believe how big and thick they were! Def the largest ones i have ever landed. Yea they always get a bad rap but they are always biting and do fight pretty good as well. They have saved the day more then once for me! Sounds like you had a good time and that's really all that matters!

Sounds like a blast, guys. Have you pulled any pike through the ice there?

I got a pickerel there last year that was about the same length but not as thick as this one. Successful Pickerel fishing is what got me to switch from live bait to lures probably a decade ago. I still love catching them. And like GetANet said, they can definitely save the day and kick the skunk down the road!
