Snapper fishing next week
Want to introduce grandchildren 8 and 6 to fishing. Figured snapper with a float and spearing might be a great way for good action catch and release. Are the snappers in pretty good in the rivers, i would think so. Any help appreciated. Might also try a drift or 2 out in sandy hook bay for those elusive fluke

Re: Snapper fishing next week
Last 2 fluke trips in the Navesink (from a rental boat) snappers were there -- too many. Ripped up Gulp and killies intended for fluke. A drift or 2 for fluke? Try the river. Last Saturday's trip was very good, but you have to get your baits/Gulp past the crabs and snappers. Good luck.

Re: Snapper fishing next week
Hey guys. Good info but now I have some questions. How big are they at the Keyport pier? Where in the Shrewsbury/Navesink is good from land? I've fished for blues but never the little ones. What do you use for bait/lures. Is it cast and retrieve or do you sit and wait.
Thanks in advance. I would like to get out this Saturday and give it a try. |

Re: Snapper fishing next week
Small kastmasters or Hopkins work well. You can also get them on baited hooks with spearing. Mind your hook size if baitfishing. Even if they're small, a longer shanked hook is ideal. Little 4-6" snappers will bite thru 10 lb test
