Fishing Buddy Licenses:

A special type of license is now available to anglers introducing a "Buddy" to freshwater fishing. The Fishing Buddy License offers both a current and a new angler (or two new anglers) reduced price fishing licenses!

These discounted licenses are available to resident anglers ages 16 to 65, or nonresident anglers over age 16, who purchase their freshwater fishing license with a "Buddy." Eligibility requires at least one new angler.

For this program a "new angler" is considered a resident or non-resident who has never purchased a fishing license or has not purchased an annual fishing license since 2011.

For example: Two "Fishing Buddies" may consist of either:
1.One resident or non-resident who has purchased at least one fishing license since 2011 AND one resident or non-resident who has NOT purchased an annual fishing licenses since 2011.

2.Two residents, non-residents, or one each - neither of whom have purchased an annual NJ fishing licenses since 2011.

Re: Fishing Buddy Licenses:

The discount is great but I find it hard to match the right situation. If im getting a friend into fishing, it's around the warm season, like around now during the summer especially with them out of school. I bought my license right when the year turned, so that's conflicting with when Id be getting a friend into fishing.

The 2nd condition for the deal states:
"Two residents, non-residents, or one each - neither of whom have purchased an annual NJ fishing licenses since 2011"
That is neat, but why not just make it so I dont need to find that 2nd friend to join on the trip? It should be that a license holder can get their new angler friend a discount. I figure this way a lot more licenses would be sold, not just for my case but for other people's situations too.

I'd like to see the discount for any new angler, buddy or not.

That's actually a lot simpler. I guess the buddy thing ensures you have someone to guide you, encourages to fish right and properly

Understood, but there is no guarantee that the "buddy" will be an ethical angler.
