What are the new numbers on Stripers
Now to keep two striped bass one must be over 43''. If you look at all the posts this there very few''overs''. Not too long ago we were aloud two stripers 28'' or better and a bonus tag. Many boats were coming in with three fish per person. When will ASMFC declare the striper stock is up? Even with stripers they want you to kill the breeders by making your second fish 43" or better. With these reductions in bag limits in NY and NJ over the past few years the striped bass population has to have increased!

Slot limit does not make much sense.

Re: What are the new numbers on Stripers
Slot limit definetly makes sense. it spreads the take out over many age classes or fish.
I personally like the new limit, as there was no reason when these fish are spawning to be killing 3 cow bass per guy day in day out. Stripers get about a one month break in pressure a year during their migration runs. its one of the few fish that we as recs have pretty much to ourselves. and I hear alot more hotting and hollering seeing guys catch these big fish, than I ever heard anyone do at the dinner table. while there are days when both the over fish as well as the under size fish an be caught, for most times it limits it to one fish an outing. . |
Re: What are the new numbers on Stripers
Seems to me Sal, the new thought is 'KILL the BREEDING STOCK FISH". Fluke, Sea Bass, Stripers.....Who gives a shit about the Mortality rate as long as the fish doesn't go into the frying pan. Can't even type anymore....enough said, total Bullshit!!
