How not set a hook...
First thing I noticed was the guy not wearing a PFD. He's lucky he was able to grab the boat.

Re: How not set a hook...
How he manages that is beyond me. I think it was a mix of being stunned by the surprise of a fish hitting + being knocked in the face with his rod.

Re: How not set a hook...
I think he appeared to drop his rod for a sec, then grab after it and fell in. Yeah, I can see myself doing that. Bottom line is that a comfortable situation can change in an instant over the most minor thing. Add cold water or a bang on the head and it can be deadly. Nobody goes on the water expecting to die. Wear that PFD.
I grew up with my dad drilling into my head "never stand up in a boat". Granted he was talking canoes and 10 ft jon boats, but that is still in the back of my mind 50 years later. I rarely stand up in boats LT 17 ft. |

No one realizes the unfortunate death tolls on some bodies of water... Like round valley, could all be avoided with water safety! |

I admit that in the summer, I rarely wear a PFD in my boat. In cold water I always have it on. Alone in my canoe, I always wear it regardless of the season. |
