Seals in Raritan Bay

Anyone else notice the seal explosion in the bay this spring? Looks like you'll be shark fishing real close to home this year.

Sandy Hook bay is loaded with them every winter. I've seen them in Raritan Bay but not as frequently. They usually leave the area right around this time. A few years back in the summer months I did see a Harbor Seal (I think that's what it was) and he hung out in the marina all summer looking for an easy meal when people were cleaning fish.

Yep, and they love flounder as well...
Between the seals and Cormorants flounder have a couple of super predators they simply didn't have a few decades ago.. I suppose it might just be coincidence, but it seems that both seals and cormorants started coming back strong about 15-20 years ago, and thats when the flounder started nosediving... bob
