3/11/2017 - Griggstown Floodplain (TLC for the D&R!)

CJST's first large cleanup of the year was a great success considering the cold and snow. On a day when the volunteer count was higher than the temperature, 36 volunteers braved the cold to clean up the Millstone River floodplain and along the Delaware and Raritan Canal. A special thank you to Watershed Ambassador Anna Marshall for organizing the event! I don't know how she got all these people out on a chilly day but job well done!

Also thank you to the Park Service for disposing of the trash. They were picking up the trash so fast that I didn't even get pictures of the piles!

Among the items collected were 10 tires, 40 bags of trash and recyclables, a traffic barrel and several barricades, a plastic skateboard ramp, half of an office chair, lots of plastic containers (garbage can, flower pots, buckets, milk crate, tote), and lots more that I didn't even see because it was gone already by the time I made it back to the parking area!

It seems like the next one is Earth Day, April 22 i think. Check out cjstreamteam's site, im betting they'll update their site soon to reveal plans for the next event.

Ill see you there, already requested the day off from work for it.

Checked calendar. Figures April 22nd's a Saturday. They'll never let me off work on a Saturday.
