Open water?

Looking to get out Monday in the boat. What's open in NJ, NY, CT?

Just judging from the northern NJ lakes I've seen they seem largely locked up. If not the entire lake, the coves where launches are generally located are probably iced over.

Round Valley ices up much later than northern lakes, though the boat lauch cove can ice up well before the rest of the lake. Who knows what will happen now that it is down so far. I'm sure someone who is from that area can fill you in. Merrill Creek Reservoir will probably be close to what you see at Round Valley. I'm willing to bet it is open, though the boat launch is in a cove that may be ice locked.

Manasquan Reservoir could be a good bet. It is closer to the ocean hence is often one of the last large lakes to ice up in central Jersey.

Rivers should be fine. I'm sure you can launch in the Passaic in Pomton Plains, though with low water I personally wouldn't run a gas motor there. It's hairy enough when the water is up. Trolling motor you should be good if you are careful.

If you want open water, the farther south you go the better your odds are. Forget about moving north to CT or NY or west to PA. Botom line find out where these guys are fishing and go elsewhere http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing...php?board=65.0

Boat launch at Manasquan is closed for the season. As of Friday, RV and Merrill were both open.
