Beefy Ken Lockwood Rainbow
1 Attachment(s)
Drove out to KLG this Sunday and really loved the beautiful scenery and cold October air. The water is super low right now and the only bugs I saw were these little black stonefly looking things. The closest thing I had were black Copper Johns so I rigged up two and drifted them. And drifted them. And drifted them. After about 100-150 dead drifts my flyline started to pull upstream and I set the hook into this chunky fella! Even with a 5wt rod and some good drag I could barely turn him and I let him run twice before landing him by the rocks. A very friendly Scottish man (If he's on this forum I hope I got that right. It sounded like a Scottish accent to me) that I had just met took the photo for me, and he caught an even bigger rainbow for himself. Before he left he said something to the effect of:
"Sometimes that one fish will make your day!" Couldn't have been more right. If youre near Califon I highly recommend you try out the KLG. You might not catch the numbers but you won't regret going! |

Nice trout Dan! I thought it looked familiar and I realized that I saw your post on Reddit earlier. Pretty cool to see the same people in multiple fishing groups. I recently got into fly fishing, and I love it so far.

Nice trout. I think the entire KLG is C&R now. Great place in the fall and winter.
