WHERE- Far west NJ somewhere down rt 78 on the BIG D!

WHEN- This Sunday, August 7th from 5pm til who knows!

WHAT- INVASIVE FLATHEAD CATS!!!

Well it's been a while and I'm sorry for the short notice! Just want to see if anyone would be interested in a SUNDAY FUNDAY on the BIG D! Please let me know if your interested via PM, phone call or text! If one NJF angler shows up I'll be thrilled, LOL!!!

Requirements- Beefy rods, beefy leader material, 5/0-8/0 RIVER MONSTER HOOKS, something on your feet you don't mind getting wet, live baits such as Blue Gills and other tasty river morsels!

There are some rather large fish around these days that swam up with the recent rains! Let's see if we can whack a few! Look forward to seeing at least one MANIAC out there, HAHA!!!:)

TIGHT LINEZ!!!:D

DO you even have to ask?

Since it is a short notice I gonna have Alex the line crossing lunatic to tag alone so you can spend some time untangling while I get da fish.

Things that make me go hmmmm... I'm very interested. What size reel do you recommend? 4000? 5000?

I have 1 3500 baitrunner reel spooled with 30lb PP! The other reel is spooled up with 40lb PP and I believe it's a Shimano Saros 4000. Never had any issues on my Flathead/Channel catfish excursions with these reels! I'll be headed out early to catch all my bait! Hope to someone out there, LOL! Send me a PM if there's any questions! If you have my number feel free to call or text!

It's funny I read this right now. I'm am totally an over-the-top, heavy gear guy, and I've often wondered how big a reel on actually needs. We landed a 7-foot, 100+ pound blacktip yesterday on a 4500 Penn Slammer III with 30 pound braid and a 25-pound fluoro leader. Fish actually hit a lure and bit it just right. Or it may have eaten a skipjack that ate the lure. My point is, you're probably good with a 4000, 3000, or even a 2000.

It's not the fish dive so much as the surrounding structure. I snapped 30lbs braid like sewing tread the other night when a big cat hit near rocks. I'll be upping to 80lbs. Not worth losing a huge fish!

Braid has minimal abrasion resistance whether it's 30-lb. or 80-lb. A 3-foot plus section of 20-lb. mono or fluoro leader, or better yet, a 6 to 10-foot 20 to 30-lb. shock leader attached with an FG knot will take care of those issues. There is no reason a 40lb. catfish cannot be caught on 20-lb. braid with the right leader.
