LBI - Day Four - 7/5/16
 

Woke up this morning around 5 and it was still raining so me and dad decided not to hit the boat for the first trip. Went back to bed for a while. Around 1030 the clouds broke and the sun started to come out so we decided to go for the second trip. My sister wanted to come so we all jump in the truck and headed over. Got to the dock when they were pulling in from the first trip that they went on with just 8 brave souls. Loaded our stuff on the bow and then got some lunch. Headed out and went down the beach like he normally does in the afternoon. First drop we made was just packed with shorts. We just nailed em. My sister who hasnt fluke fished in a while was back into her grove in no time jigging up fluke like it was her job. We all just keep picking through the shorts at each drift. We moved in tighter to the beach on one drift and i dropped down and got hit hard. Set the hook and start reeling. Felt like a good one right from the start. Called for Ryan to come net it. Get it to the top of the water and he scoops it up. A nice fish around 4 and a half pounds he guessed. 23 inches. So i won the dollar fish again! We make a move and dad drops down and just gets hammered. I saw the hit when he got it and it was just a violent hit! He starts reeling and get the fish about half way up and it peels drag back down. Starts to bring it again and he dropped the fish. Lets just say he wasnt to happy and had a few choice words to say. Sucks. We moved again for the last drift and it was mostly skates and few shorts.

Horn honks three times and its time to go. Ryan comes up to grab my fish to see who won the pool. Walks it around the boat then comes up and tells me that I won again!!!! Thats 2 pools in a row! Im on fire. And he knows that i give half the pool to them no matter how much it is plus my normal tip. They desire it.

So I ended the day with just the 1 keeper. Between myself, dad and my sister molly we must have had 40-50 shorts. So the action is there just no big ones today. All and all a good day. Have not fished with my sister in a long time so us three together today was really nice.

Oh yeah i forgot. I dropped down on one drift and just jigging along when i feel some weight on the rod so i swing and its heavy but no fight. Thinking clam shell because i had see a few come up on other peoples line. So i reel in and get it to the top and guess what its a Tony Maja spoon! Like brand new. Had about 4 feet of like 80 pound line tied to it. Cut the line off and threw it in the garbage and took the spoon to hang on my wall

Good job - Teachin' those Southerners how to git 'er done :) Nice money grab again :cool: a very special family vacation that just keeps getting better & better. Hopefully dad re-hooks the one that got away . . .

Sounds like a great trip. Maybe you can take your pool winnings and buy a new shirt.

Thanks Larry. Yeah dad was pissed to say the least. But im sure he will hook into a nice one again tomorrow
