Mojo backing -braid

Hey Guys
Posted this in tackle. Guess the saltwater guys didn't wanna answer.
Maybe you guys would knoe

never done a light <I have a 20 and a 40> spinner for trout and bass with braid. seen a lot of places say to use backing. i know for saltwater this saves us on cost, and so the line doesn't "pack" into it self too bad if some one doesn't reel in with pressure.
for freshwater, is a mono backing needed. spools only take 110 yards of 4, and 150 of 10<roughly, i forget the 40s exact> not using any crazy braids, just looking to try spider wire for hook sets

any thoughts or experience is much appreciated

There are some newer reels that are made to take the PP right to the spool! They add rubber strips to the spool so the PP doesn't slip and holds tight! A trick I use if I want load up a reel with braid is just adding a simple piece of rubberized tape to the spool. No more slipping and spinning braid for me! If your going to add a shot of mono for backing you only need a couple feet of that on the spool then just tie your knot and add the braid! Very easy!!!

Thanks Eddie. I broke my back up ultrwlight(I keep two, trout fish alot) was a cheap Shakespeare. I have a pflueger trion, and it's awesome for thirty
The president is made for braid(special spool)
Debating the extra 20. If it's that easy, and people do it, I'll just pocket the 20 for beer $

The press is a much better reel than the triton well worth the 20, but as for the backing it's easy like Eddie said. Can use a piece of athletic tape or some mono to prevent slipping

Non braid specific spools get 15 to 20 wraps of light mono then a uni to uni with braid.

Mono will only crush a lesser quality spool if put on under pressure ! Short shots of mono THAT never leave the spool,& basically used as a filler will not hurt spool since the elastic properties of mono will never be put into play . So put is on under normal pressure should be no issue .

Thanks everyone. played with a president
Worth the extra twenty.

Gonna braid my big rod. Mono won't come off, so not a big deal
Happy July 4! Stay safe, and tight lines

At that price point the Sedona or Sahara is worth a look.
