Avet LX Recommendation?

Can anyone recommend an Avet model reel for trolling for striped bass?

Seems like there are a few models...and I like that they have left hand retrieve options.

Thanks.

If it's going to be used for strictly trolling then get the 4.6 since you want the lower retrieve speed when you are fighting a fish.

If you want to use it to troll and jig, the 2 speed would be best. You troll in the lower gear and jig in the higher gear and when you are fighting a fish put it in lower gear.

You don't need the MC cast versions unless you are going to be casting so I would pass on that.

Gerry has it well stated there, the only thing I would suggest is that instead of the LX, look at the JX. same gear ratios, just a narrower spool. Has all the capacity you need for trolling & jigging stripers, but when fighting a fish, I find the narrower reels easier to deal with.

Yep Jim. The JX is a great choice as well. Part of the reason I bought the LX was for the extra line capacity so I could use it for trolling offshore as well. If I was going to use it strictly for Stripers, I prolly would have went with the JX. JX are also great for deep water bottom fishing too.

You can also use the LX for tuna!!! Yes, I use an LX6 with 30# mono with 30# braid backing for day flat lining. Landed up to 70# LFT on it-no problems...

What kind of rods are you guys pairing these with for trolling inshore, jigging, trolling offshore, etc.?

If you're jigging, Black Hole is tough to beat. The Cape Cod Special 250 gram rod is all you will need and more for jigging NJ bluefin.
