Landlocked Salmon 5/7
First time fishing for Landlocked Salmon went well. Caught fish from 12-16" trolling Kastmaster Spoons. Fish holding in 15-20 feet. The bite went dead as soon as the rain stopped and fog lifted. Took home two at 16" for the grill.

Re: Landlocked Salmon 5/7
Are they tasty? Is the flesh the typical salmon pink? Very curious. How's the fight?

Re: Landlocked Salmon 5/7
After prepping the fish I cut a few pieces for sashimi and the rest went on the grill. Both tasted very good. The flesh was a much lighter pink then the Atlantic Salmon. Really almost white like a Trout. Stomachs were completely empty.

Fight was a blast on med/light tackle. A lot of jumps all the way to the boat.

Re: Landlocked Salmon 5/7
Wild salmon get their coloring from a chemical called Astaxanthin found in krill, shrimp and algae in the oceans. Farmed raised salmon get their coloring from artificially colored feed.

the ll salmon i've eaten form nj waters taste similar to the hold over smaller sized (15-17") trout, but a little better if you ask me.
