Nephews First Trout Finally - 2 Years in the making
 

First off thanks to Andy and a bunch of other regulars who would threw some hints my way on where to catch some fishies over the years but Saturday finally paid off. I have been trying 2 years with him to get his first trout and he finally did it. Went over to the Rahway River on the Union/Springfield border and fished below the bridge and finally. A nice 10-12 incher for the camera. The other one was about the same and was barley hooked and we got him in the net then he popped right out. It is also funny that he was fishing with a bobber until I finally said no-more. Soon as it came off he started getting hits but couldn't quite figure it out and then he finally did. We were using yellow power bait and we caught 5 in like 20 minutes. It was great , I was also told there was a really big fish that was caught there and let go , Kudos to that angler.

Couldn't be happier and prouder

Thanks again to everyone with all the help and pointers and Yes Logs22 they definitely stocked the Rahway - only a couple of more weeks though

Great fish! Congrats to your son, if you're lucky he will catch the fishing bug and then you will always have a partner and an excuse to fish! I hope in a few years to have similar experiences with my son who is just turning 2.

Your boy is better than I am at snagging trout from the Rahway! So far this season I have pulled nothing but Bass, channel Cats and one foul-hooked snapper out of the Mighty Rahway.

It took 2 years with him , he had many hits / swings and misses but it took some time

BTW go to Rahway River Park , if you have waders you will get one follow the masses

Thanks for the Kudos everyone , I am trying to get a fishing buddy so far I am 1 for 2 with the nephews but the little guy is only 3 and will have to see in a couple of years

good stuff. union county kinda sucks for regular fishing but its great for kids if you just want to bend the rod with sunnies/catfish or trout.
