Passaic Valley Water Commission...NASTY WATER!!
Went to a local spot to see wuts up. Where the Passaic River flows under the Market Street bridge in Elmwood Park/Paterson. Raw looking & smelling sewage is spewing from a pipe connecting to the bridge all into the water. I definitely suggest not fishing that area or downstream a bit till proper repairs are made.
I made a few calls to let the proper authorities know so we'll see what happens. |

.
Yuck. Be careful not to mistake floating turds for surface feeding fish . :D http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...tingTurds3.jpg . |

Re: Passaic Valley Water Commission...NASTY WATER!!
I used to fish a lot at the Dundee falls in Garfield and that area above the falls would frequently be choked with grass clippings. And I mean like about ten or fifteen feet wide bands of floating clippings along the entire length of the Garfield shoreline. I've seen what that does on golf courses and it isn't good. This isn't just someone cutting their yard, it has to be a few soccer fields or large parks or something like that upstream. Never could figure out where it all came from but it had to be someplace upstream of the dam, and not more than a couple miles.
So out of curiosity, who do you call for this? I have the Game Thief number in my phone, but what about ecological stuff like this??? |

Esox, not sure if you have been following the current events on CSO's(combined sewage outflows), but a few groups are pushing hard to have the public notified promptly when it is released into the rivers. http://www.northjersey.com/news/envi...safe-1.1426161 |

Would've been good to know beforehand of the sewage...but I'm thinking they found out by myself calling. Ppl that answer phones for police or municipalities are soo ufcking LAZY!! It's a phone; you pic it up, listen & talk, and God forbid they half to hang up to reach someone else needed for that same happening. From my experiences, ASK AND GET THEIR NAME BEFORE TELLING THEM YOURS!! I really do hate LAZY PEOPLE!! |

YUMMY! Close encounters of the urban fisherman :(
Just to clarify these CSO's are owned by the City of Paterson and not Passaic Valley Sewerage (not water)Commission. There are quit a few CSO's upstream of that location so there maybe other ones discharging. See attached map. You can see where other CSO's are located further downstream and along other water bodies (Hackensack, Hudson, Elizabeth River, etc) on the DEP Geo Web. CSO's are located under the sites and facilities layers. http://www.nj.gov/dep/gis/geowebsplash.htm |
