Miami Trip: Peacock Bass
3 Attachment(s)
I took a trip down to Miami this weekend for some R&R and some fishing. My goal was to catch a peacock bass and boy did I! I landed 14 peacocks. It was about 50/50 on topwater and live shiners. I also caught 4 largemouth. At one point I was working a Heddon Torpedo along a dock and and a big snook exploded on it. After a crazy fight it broke my 12# leader. I never expected a snook to be in freshwater but we were close to the salt.

Awesome. It's a whole different world down there. Bass have most of the year to grow instead of the three months they get up here. The warm water also allows all sorts of exotics to thrive. Last April while visiting Boca Raton, I realized I could throw a lure into any river, canal, or pond and pull out something interesting. . |

Great pics - I've never encountered them down there but they are on my bucket list.
