Talking about going trout hunting.

Obviously NJ waters still hold plenty of trout and there are some lurkers out there but hey why make it easy and fish those waters when you can just pack a car and drive 8 hours to PA for some.

Left my work, threw some gear and off to Eire PA we went. 8 hours and 2 bottles of whiskey later we were on the hunting grounds. Quickly got all the goodies we need at Poor Richards Bait and Tackle and to the creek we went. Almost no one there and literally creek was stacked with fish upon fish. Every hole held close to 30 fish and with clarity of water being crystal clear it was a sight to behold. All shapes and sizes were present. For almost 3 hours we threw everything at them with nothing to show for it. Fish wanted nothing to do with assortment of flies, worms and live bait that was thrown under its nose.

But it didn't last. 4 hours later with a rain on the horizon wax worms started to produce with 3 bows hooked within mere minutes. Having got my limit proceeded with messing around for another good couple of hours with additional 15 landed and released. Fishing was nothing short of spectacular.

That was Saturday and on Sunday was back at it. Got to stream at 6am and limited out by 6:30am on flies. With rain falling overnight water lever rose a bit and was able to find even more fish in the spots upstream. Just floating the fly down produced quickly and easy.

Beautiful place to be and one of the cleanest streams I ever fished both in water clarity and surroundings.

Erie tribs are stupid, its almost not really fishing as you trip over fish when your walking. Glad you had a good time and got into a lot of fish. Next time you go if they are fussy forget the fish you can see and fish the fast water ripples for the fresher fish which are usually more active. Also, try dead drifting a sucker spawn fly with absolutely no weight. You have to put it right in their face and they will flare their gills and suck it in. Its hard to see but the water is so gin clear you can see it if you look hard.

Awesome glad you had a good trip. Definitely not my cup of tea fishing those puddle trout but definitely a good way to learn a little about steelhead and presentation. Glad you had the rain as most of the time it's usually crowded with guys all getting frustrated fishing the gin clear water with the fish being stubborn. Next comes the snagged that makes it next to impossible with any fish willing to bite quickly scared inot lock jaw with hooks being yanked over there back every few minutes. But like you if you hit during or after a rain many times the fish are very cooperative and not nearly as much snagging happening

Great report my friend. Im sure good times were had by all out there. Heres one of Andre's Rainbow TROUT LIMITS. Poor guy still has one of those weird flip phones. LOL!!!:D

Nice andre! Buddy just got back said there were little to no fish two weeks ago way to whack with that rain! Any big browns?
