Water Clarity

What's up with this horrible water clarity? The water in the Manasquan River and its lagoons and tributaries is plain out nasty! The water quality or lack of it extends out into the ocean as well. It's not even green! So what's going on? Runoff? I doubt it. There's been no rain! South wind? Maybe. Raised water temperatures? Warm water doesn't have to mean that it turns tepid. Whatever is causing it, I hope it changes soon.

A month or so ago, there were divers along the rocks in Manasquan Inlet. What changed?

Water has been crap in the ocean all year. There is a line on satellite shots from mid point LW west and southward. Looks like lawn run-off and algae blooms.

With the lack of rain this year, I don't think the run off has been as much of an issue.

Simple it's all the dredging that's going on. Just look down the beach's after it's done you can see sand lines off the surface for miles. You want to know why the Fluking Su*ks this year here's your answer. Ever since Sandy the water has been this way. Talk to a farmer after he tills his land then after it's cultivated you get great plant life. Too much sunlight plus dredging & on top of that & you got a agile bloom.

I think there is certainly is some validity to this.

What dredging?? there is no dredging in Central Ocean Cty and we have crapy water, its the same old South wind that we have had all spring thru summer, show me 3 consecutive days of a west wind that lasted over 72 hours with out the South wind picking up in the PM, If you look at it its only in the NY Bight  yeah this s@@cks I can show you pictures of last year at this time with gin clear water

Your not looking at the same thing I was looking at. Last year & this year after the dredging starts just go down tide of it once they start it's all over the place. Did you notice some of the Fluke with scratch marks on them I never saw that before. Last year we had a lot of north East winds clearer waters yes but it was short lived. I remember all the blue water inshore it only lasted 1 week. Right after that dredge went through the same thing happened again sand all over the place again. Years ago this time of the year you could find False Albacore & Bonito off the beach's. I have not read any reports about that happening in a very long time. Right after Labor day usually the SH reef used to be packed with Porgies whens the last time you have seen that happen. Yes you still get them but it's not like it used to be. South wind is a very common wind for this time of the year last year it was very uncommon north east winds for summer month's. I don't know much about central Ocean City but south winds have been around in July & August almost all of my life & that's a very long time of fishing & wind watching. I only hope the government runs out of money to continue the dredging & I think you will see the results if it does.
