Crabbing question
Can anyone suggest any places in the Red Bank/Middletown area for crabbing off a pier or bridge. Also any suggestions as to best time of day, tide, etc. Thank you.

Oceanic Bridge in Rumson and the Red Bank Municipal pier.
Incoming seems to be best. |
Re: Crabbing question
Not to steal a thread...but I will anyway. I usually launch out of the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Marina. I'd love to set a couple pots, go fluking for however long and pull the pots on the way back in. However, I have no experience with crab pots or have any idea where to even set them. I'd rather not run down river if there are closer/easier places to catch crab.
Is this merely a fantasy or is it feasible? thanks, Jim |
Re: Crabbing question
Here is a site that is specifically for crabbing in NJ. Good Luck. https://www.bluecrab.info/forum/index.php?board=87.0

Re: Crabbing question
I'm embarrassed to say I don't know where the Red Bank pier is. How about the pier in Port Monmouth? I know it can get busy with fisherman.

Re: Crabbing question
Along the side of the Oceanic Bridge. You can't fish directly on the bridge, but there's an area next to it with a small parking lot where you can crab. I've done pretty well there in the past from shore. Gotta go around high tide though, fish 2 hours before, and 2 hours after high tide.

Re: Crabbing question
How would you say the crabbing is in the Navasink river in the Sea Bright area?

Re: Crabbing question
The river is pretty fast in Sea Bright - most crabbing is done up the Shrewsbury

Re: Crabbing question
The new west front street bridge has to be the spot now.
