Haha take it with a grain of salt. Any place the requires you to pay to fish their land will exaggerate their reports and the dsr has been caught red handed and is known for exaggerating reports especially early season.

^^^ This man speaks the truth! Beware of the high end fishery that is the DSR. Sure there's a couple nice spots in the beginning of the river. At no time have I payed to fish a river that should be open to the public in the first place. Watch out for the band of hooligans posting reports about the DSR! They're just trying to get there income early this year because of the lack of fish last year.

Good luck! TIGHT LINEZ AZ ALWAYZ!!!

I will admit I did hear of an honest report or two from today that guys saw one or two salmon in the estuary. Still a week or two away from any kind of small push of fish tho

The DSR tries on occasion to emply that there is fish in the river , however in reality even when that water was a free fishery & that's what is should be never proved out to compete with other areas of this river . No I'm not saying there isn't fish to be caught in those lower reaches but for most part I've always felt those fish push on upstream quickly .
It's really shame this stream isn't kept open by NYS but it is what it is .
I've spoken to a couple of very reliable sources that I actively deal with in this region & none suggest any run is on , stragglers yes but nothing remotely being a run .
If u dislike fishing the crowds u have a couple of choices now or winter ! In the seventies eighties , I never fished anything but steelheads since it was snagging country for many seasons on salmon .
I can tell u I gave up Mi & Canadian steel heading for upstate NY & man it was great many 20 fish days with the river being relatively free of anglers !!

There was big browns in the ladder 3 weeks ago when I was there. There's always a few come and go. Definitely exaggerated to psych everyone up. However, if you wanna go you'll have the river to yourself.

Yea DSR has misleading info sometimes just to get business but, we should be expecting a run soon. At least lets hope we do.

You guys have peaked my interest! Obviously, I'm not trying to steal anyone's super secret tactics but can you elaborate a little bit about the fishery, the run, and tactics? Spent the last 4.5 years in Cali chasing bass on the delta. However, I stumbled across the king run out there and have to admit...I got hooked!

I actually found areas were I could cast for them. It was a blast.

I spent a few hours doing some internet research and it would appear that this river get POUNDED during the run. I'm not looking for that combat fishing experience. Any thoughts? I do have a boat.
