Cobia off the beach? or sharks?
Anyone out there see a school of cobia off the beach today? Could have been sharks. There were a lot of them in a school pushing water and slowly rolling. But when they were on the move the tips of their fins looked shark-like. I've never seen cobia in so close but anything is possible. This was off Lavallette beach today.
Any other sightings to confirm this or not? Thanks. |
Re: Cobia off the beach? or sharks?
Could be cow nose rays, I have seen them many times recently looking how you explained.

Re: Cobia off the beach? or sharks?
I thought I saw a Cobia swimming Wednesday in 65ft off Manasquan inlet. I didn't think it was a Shark because I didn't see a dorsal fin.

Re: Cobia off the beach? or sharks?
I've observed that cobia are pretty easy to identify as their dorsals will protrude from the water disproportionately far behind their heads relative to their size. Also can see the white around their mouths. Cow nose would be my bet
