Well I headed out onto the river last night for the last day of the pikeathon. I have never been attacked by mosquitoes so bad in my life. I only casted three times in each spot cause I was getting eaten. Had one pike on and lost her. That was it except for the 20 mosquito bites I got. I guess I need more bug spray. I guess I shouldve listened to u gyuuys about the bugs. Lol. Def a personal best of getting bit up.

Buy insect repellent with 100% DEET. You can thank me later :p.

This is similar to one of a few bug nets I use. Its a little awkward fishing in it but it keeps them off. It gets kind of messy when I forget I'm wearing it and spit :D

Got to get black. Brown has too much glare.

I always wear light waders not matter how hot out so that protects my lower body. I spray Deep Woods OFF on my hat and hands. I also wear a long sleeve shirt with Permethrin on it which acts as a repellent. Basically I'm covered head to toe. Its tough in the summer heat but you gotta do it or else. I sweat off about 1-2 lbs each trip and my heart rate skyrockets so u can't go too crazy. Drink lots of water before and carry a bottle with you. You'll need it.

Normally jeans and a flannel shirt is enough to keep the mosquitoes away - but this year is one of those years where the mosquitoes will land on you and work their proboscis between the fibers of your clothes and into your skin.

The last time I ventured near the Passaic in Lord Sterling Park, I had to slap so many mosquitoes, my clothes were covered in squished bugs and blood spots where I hit them after they started drinking my blood.

Sawyer brand maxi deet. It's killer stuff. You'll get buzzed but they won't land on you. I spray my clothes down with it before hitting the Passaic.

sawyer fishermans formula picaridin. Won't eat up your gear and actually I thought it worked better than my Muskol max deet. Don't breathe it in while spraying!

Ouch!! To be honest, the ONLY time I use bug spray is if I fish at night, especially the P! I hate spraying chemicals all over myself and worse, possibly getting it on my lures. But the skeeters, and chiggers are blood thirsty beasts........

Unfortunately I've pulled more ticks of myself this year than I care to remember. Definitely adding a lymes test onto the yearly physical, lol.......... I HATE ticks.......

I've picked off more ticks this year than I have in my previous 32 years of life combined
