Reel Class Sunday 7/5 Half-Day Bottom Smorgasbord

Had Neal and his boys on for a half day bottom fishing trip.

Decided to take a little ride today to get into a little more variety. Found some cod right away, although they were mostly shorts, jumping all over our clam baits. Also had a few ling mixed in - I also was able to jig up one cod - but that was it on the jig. Action was OK - nothing great.

Hopped around, caught some ling and cod thereafter, even a nice 4-5# tog which went back, as well as a nice winter flounder, but the action was never great.

Around noon time the taylor bluefish came up, and we were able to jig a handful of those also.

A couple of drops on wrecks yielded more ling, a pollock, and a few nice seabass. South wind came on pretty good after 1PM, so we called it a day then and headed for the inlet.

Overall it was a nice trip - although the bottom fishing was slow because of the swell - we also had 2 of the boys down most of the day so we only had 2 rods in the water most of the time. Wound up with about 20 ling, a few keeper cod and seabass, 1 winter flounder, and about a half dozen blues. The guys had a real nice bag of meat for a fish fry at day's end!
