weekend report

friday my buddy and i headed out for the first night trip this year in hopes the hybrids were doing their thing. he likes to use live bait (i usually just use lures most of the time) so we got herring and set up shop...nothing for an hour.

we made a big move (which in my little soda can boat on big lakes sucks) got to the point and two boats were on it. I couldn't make another big run so my apologies to the two boats that were there (probably some guys on here) I anchored closer to you than i normally would but we kept our casts close and hopefully didn't get in your way.

anyway we didn't get anything or see anyone get anything. to make a long story short after moving around the point area after guys left, we gave up and dumped all the bait. then i said 'dude i'm a lure fisherman, i can't leave here without casting a lure at least a few times'. so i get the swimbaits i made and cast out...i get bumped. i cast again and connect with a pretty nice little walleye! first one of the year. so i get a quick pic release it.

i cast again and when i tell you my lure got trucked...i mean trucked. 10lbs line snaped on impact at the palomar knot that i know was good, unless it got damaged in the water. and this palomar knot was above a nickle leader so it wasn't cut by teeth! my best guess is a hybrid nailed it and i accidently had my thumb down on the baitcast spool blocking the drag from initiating (it's a nasty habit i have when setting the hook with a baitcaster)...anyway that called for another rage monster haha.

next day tried for bigger tigers, my friend lost on at the boat from not setting the hook hard enough on the weedless frog and i had a follow later that bailed out before i even had a chance to figure 8 it! oh well...went saltwater fishing the next day and caught the biggest fish of my life so it's all good! i'll post that report in the salt later!

I still have to catch me one of those! Great walleye.

Can't wait to see what the SW fish was. I am guessing it had to be a Striped Bass or Shark.

That's cool...Check out the report from Papa's Angels from 5/8 on the saltwater board...guy caught a 60 lb Black Drum in Raritan Bay...there's a picture. Must be a good run of them this year.

heres the pic if anyone wants to see it but doesn't want to go in the salt section. i'm having problems with photo bucket. couldn't weigh it too heavy for the digital boat scale. had to be in that 60lbs range too looking at their picture. i released this one pretty quick it swam away instantly even after the 10 minute fight.

Epic. What kind of bait did it(the drum) take?
