Anyone fish Washington Valley recently?
I was tossing some spinners around Spooky Brook pond and the word on the pond is that not a lot of fish are being caught. Tons of activity along the golf course shoreline got me curious as to whether kayaks are allowed in the pond. An email to the county parks dept and bam, within a half hour I get the word. A big fat NO. (just like ice fishing). You can use the county parks to access rivers but no ponds/lakes. There is one exception and that is Washington Valley Reservoir. I have never fished it and just realized it is accessible from Newmans Lane. Anyone fish it recently?

Re: Anyone fish Washington Valley recently?
I think most people just assume no boats allowed in there so probably not much pressure, give it a try.

Re: Anyone fish Washington Valley recently?
I got tossed out by a park ranger trying to ice fish. I was told fishing is allowed only from the shoreline.

Re: Anyone fish Washington Valley recently?
You are correct on the ice fishing. Not permitted in any Somerset County park. The following is my email and reply from the parks commission. I did see someplace on the county website that motors are not allowed.
Darren,* Unfortunately, we do not permit boats of any kind in any body of water in the parks. The only place you can is the reservoir at Washington Valley Park. You can also access rivers from park property.* Dave* Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE smartphone -------- Original message -------- From: Darren S Date:*04/29/2015 7:32 PM*(GMT-05:00)* To: <ddendler@SCPARKS.ORG>* Subject: Kayaks in County Parks* Sir, You may or may not remember me. I inquired about ice fishing in County Parks. Thank you for your assistance with that. I am writing now to inquire if kayaks are permitted in County Park lakes/ponds. *In particular, Spooky Brook Pond. As always, all rules and regulations are followed especially the use of a PFD (personal flotation device).* Thank you for your time. |
