Round 1 me vs. shad

shad win. I waded around found some deeper water tried a few different things, found out the butt seam on my waders leaks and picked half a dozen ticks off myself and lost a handful of lures. Only thing I caught was maybe Lyme disease if I missed any of those ticks...

That sounds rough. Def have some one pick thru your hair and give you a quick check for ticks if they were that bad... Lymes is awful dude. My brother has it and it basically eliminated him from extended time in the sun. Not to mention the dozens of other side effects he feels for it. He doesn't day fish at all... But he's a crazy skitcher at night out East so he makes up for it!

That's sucks! Did he have it for a while for the effects to show? How'd he find out he had it?

I only ask cause I pulled one out of myself last season. Saved it in case I felt ill but never did. Also, I don't think it was "feeding" long enough to transmit lymes if it did have it.......

The general medical wisdom is that the tick has to be attached and feeding for 36-48 hours for Lyme disease to be transmitted.

I hate the damn things too and get covered with them in the fall during pheasant season. Just use the bug spray and check yourself carefully when you come in and you should be able to avoid any problems.

Chris,

I got stuck watching the 4 year old yesterday when my wife decided she was taking the older girls down to the Pequest to fish. Looks like I didn't miss anything tho.

Shad fishing u can get by with shad darts in various weights to commensurate with current on any given day.
Two colors work best for me gold or silver tails optional ! Utilize light spin outfit with 6# Mono & use the Japanese style tuna jigging method once dart bounces bottom, lotsa fun ! Remember U can't work dart too fast they slam it at flank speed ditto ur fly for the fly rods guys . Use shooting heads only to get at proper depth & then strip flank speed , they will kill it !
If u can find a video I made for an outdoor production co on fly rod shad fishing on the big D called simply fly fishing for shad it shows the very best methods .
I made this in mid nineties VHS format .

keep in mind only deer ticks carry Lyme Disease, wood ticks don't. personally, i find at least 10x more wood ticks on me than deer ticks... makes me feel at least a little better.

if you find one attached, always remember to monitor the area for the bullseye rash though
