Took another ride around today, checked out a few different areas for the Striped ones. Not liking what we see, we will resume sailing our next open boat Striper trip Friday. Found bottom paved with jumbo Flounders that are non existent around here because of all those people who decimated the fishery. Remember, no matter what some may try and feed you...A ROD AND REEL WILL NEVER HURT A FISHERY.

Not to be disrespectful but do you have any idea why the winter flounder populations have crashed? From your quote it seems as if you are falsely blaming the average rod and reel fisherman. From what I understand it was all the commercial draggers that would target them offshore in the summer that devastated the populations. Their fishing was unchecked for years until it was too little and too late.

We agree 100%. My comment on the "decimation" was a total play on another post on here in regards to rod and reel flounder fishing.

MAYBE you were not flounder fishing during the hay day , but anyone who was that thinks we didnt hurt that fishery as much as the netters is an idiot.
Guys used to fill every type of container they could fit on a boat..

And its about time there is possibly an abundance of them around , since the season has been a 2 fish limit for approx 7 years , so they def were unpressured for that time.
7 years is a LONG time for a stock to take to rebuild yet still not have an ample bag limit.

And if you dont think the pressure the Recs have been putting on the stripers.
From NC, Virginia, Maryland, NJ. NY RI , MASS has been crushing these fish you need to get out more , or start keeping a detailed log.

But opinions are like A holes everyone has a different one.

Did my share of decimation in the early 80s both here and in Quincy. Just trying to figure out how you found the bottom paved??? Thanks in advance

Sure we have been fishing during the "heyday", but a rod and reel will never hurt a fishery. Fish will bite certain tides, on certain water temps., maybe not give a bait a second look, moon, current, traffic and the list goes on. To a dragger, roller gear or potter, all of this doesn't matter. 2 fish is a total ridiculous limit to be imposed on winter Flounders, with no talk and no change in sight. Again, ROD AND REEL WILL NOT HURT A FISHERY.
