wild trout adventure

sorry...unsuccessful adventure....i should have added that to the title.

but a wild trout adventure none the less...

water was super murky with i'd say average flow for the area but water level was down a good amount. With no bait or scent allowed in the area i tried a little plastic lure under a bobber. Right at my point of entry i found a good pool, got one hit but never hooked up on it. I couldn't get another hit there so i just started my trek down stream. found some little pools but nothing as good as the first spot and no bites so i headed back.

switched lures to a little mini jerk bait and finally started catching...creek chubs or shiners whatever they are...oh well i'm counting that as not a skunk! haha

Wednesday i'll head to the other side of the damn and hit what appears to be some deeper water...if there are truly wild trout in this river/stream (and i'm not so sure there are) I will find them...mark my words!

Water is still too cold for consistent action. I hit a very good wild trout stream sunday for almost 3 hours using beadhead nymphs and got only a few small brookies. Water was 34F and the snow in the shaded ravines about 6-12" deep. Stiil ice along the edges as well - almost a foot high. Good exercise but little reward for the effort.

Working my butt off to cover more sections of this so called wild trout stream...I'm leaning closer and closer to claiming this particular area barren of trout. I caught 41 chub shiners today using a trout magnet, that's right I kept count. No trout. Sadly it was kind of fun for a while haha.

Anyone like to use live chubs for bait? I could fill a bucket in a matter of minutes. How much do they sell for, maybe I could start a new career.

Years ago fished Dunnfield Creek in February & caught wild browns & native brookies. We backpacked up to the site, keeping a brown and brookie. Boiled in a pot over campfire, water saturated w/butter, best fish I ever recall.
