Trout and tip ups
Seeing that I'm relatively new to ice fishing, I was curious if there was any specific strategy to catching trout on tip ups, or it was even feasible. The state has stocked a few lakes with trout for the winter, I was thinking of taking a crack at it. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Re: Trout and tip ups
i've always wanted to try for trout through the ice too but i can't get any of my buddies to leave the damn panfish alone long enough! haha
if i do get the chance i'd do like he said up higher not near the bottom and i'd try fatheads or even that dough they make for trout (powerbait or whatever brand) |

Re: Trout and tip ups
The common wisdom is to set your tip up just below the ice for trout. I usually have one tip up down about 3 feet under the ice for that reason if I'm fishing a lake where they holdover, but but I've never landed a trout on that one. All the trout I've caught through the ice were near the bottom.
