Last day on the soft water?

I'll be packing the boat away for the winter soon, but I'm glad I hadn't done it yet. I decided to go out for a few hours Sunday afternoon because it was so nice. Had to go with South Fayson because they gate the ramp at West Fayson November 1 through March 31 (who the heck knows why).

Trolled a Ratt-l-Trap and a small Shad Rap for about an hour and a half hoping to nail a suspended wiper or trout. All I bagged was a really good sized perch.

Tried casting to the the shore and into 6-15 feet of water with a chatterbait and the Rat-l-Trap, then a Binsky, but nothing doing ,so went with a jig and still nada.

Just as the sun was setting I hit a drop off with a tube bait and was into a good sized fish, but lost it before I could see it. 10 minutes later I landed a nice little bass about 14 inches. I didn't bring a flashlight so I called it a day just before dark.

It was a great day to be on the water and nice that I wasn't completely skunked. Water was 37 degrees so the ice can't be far behind.

Private, ya gotta know someone. They stock with pretty much everything, but only trout and bass are caught in any numbers. Though I know of someone who pulled out a 36" pike this summer. I have an empty seat about 3/4 of time I fish there. Come spring I'll get in touch with you.

Two of my best days on open water were Xmas Eve and New Years Eve.
