Trying to catch some Herring

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you guys had any tips for catching herring? I have never targeted them and thought it would be a cool thing to do to change it up.

Any hot colors for sabiki rigs? Any good spots to fish from shore? Any special techniques?

Thanks!

Usually manasquan inlet is where you can find herring/shad in good numbers at times. Outgoing tide is what I usually have the best luck. Danilo rigs work well and little mister twisters too. Goodluck

Sabiki rigs or Mackerel rigs works just fine.

Inlets, sabikis, and a buck tail for the weight. Never know whats lurking under them.

I thought catching hearing was not allowed in NJ any longer? I see the "river hearing" is a closed species.
