SB Troutin' with the Bubbster

Big weekend for the little man...managed to boat his first keeper striper on Thursday night ( http://www.njfishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75401 ) but still had the itch for some fall trout fishin'....we were going to hit a pay lake yesterday, but it just didn't work out, so I offered to take him to his favorite spot on the South Branch today (thanks again for the tip, Jigman!) Was a little slow, not too bad with leaves, but the Bubbster managed to wrangle a decent Brownie fishing a baby night crawler below a split shot....he also lost a pretty decent brookie (he say brownie, but it looked darker to me; maybe a smallie, even?) ...that was it for the day, ad dad got el-skunko (again!) but the image in my head of seeing him pull in this brownie, and the smile on his face during the fight makes it all worth it

Niiiice... That fish looks wild. Good job getting him on the fish! Can't wait until my step son is old enough for outings like that.

Nice stuff. Cool to see the fall trout are still biting.

I read that we cannot use bait in the trout waters of the Raritan (only lures/flies). Has anyone else read that new regulation as well?

I was under the impression that the artificial only section of the raritan was the Ken Lockwood Gorge...no signs or anything posting otherwise where we were today, and can't find anything mentioning any section of the south branch being artificial only...

great job.. you are a cool dad! why not start him with a fly rod? live bait on wild trout not really the future

Gotta start him somewhere to keep him interested... Fishing a stocked stretch with bait is a practice I use often--nothing wrong with that. I'm sure if his son wanted to eventually get into fly fishing, he'd support it. Getting kids involved IS the future. Letting them learn different tactics and techniques is something they can explore as their interest grows.

Good to know, thanks!
