1 dead Raritan Bay

News this morning.

Two guys both in 80's flipped over in Raritan Reach. I think out of GK SI. One is dead. The other critical.

Sad!

Most times that is running over your own anchor line. Easy to do. I've done it. Very bad when windy. You are anchored stern to the oncoming seas. Good thing it wasn't too windy.

Trying to untangle the wheel can be a disaster on a small boat.

Very sad! I was listening to the CG and NYPD radio transmissions running acros the bay on a ferry. I heard the CG call off the NYPD scuba diver saying they were already working on the second victim onboard the reacue boat. At that point I knew it was not going to be a good outcome.

I would sign the papers right now to be fishing at 84 years of age with my best friend.

Tight lines, Rip!

Condolences to the family. Very sad indeed. A reminder to all of us that regardless of age thing can go bad very quickly.

Driving in to work this morning I heard a clip of the survivor interview. He was very upset at the fact that another boat had pulled up on the scene prior to the authorities and did nothing to help the drowning victim as he pleaded for them to throw a life jacket or a line to his friend ...

That was the live account from the survivor saying that they just motored away....I am not condemning anybody as it is possible that he was confused and hypothermic, but if another boater truly ignored an emergency such as this it is criminal and they will have to live with this for the rest of their lives..........
