Fishermen/ You gotta read this

Ok, Im nite Striper fishing for 20 years and I can honestly say I NEVER STOLE ANYONES SPOT, not by using the radar or any other means. This past Tue. nite I had a guy come down that has fished with me for at least 15 years-lets call him Pete, anyway Pete catches a 30lb fish and we have a decent nite.Capt Ron tells me that he just bought a charter boat and he is probably here to steal my spots where I have been fishing. I am steaming out to where I have been fishing and there is a boat about 200 yards from the spot I want to fish and guess who- lets call him Pete is waiting to jump my bones, to make a long story short we caught, and Pete watched as we had fish in the low 30 lb class with a high hook of 3 and guys with 1 or none. There is nothing worse than a thief and I take pride in what I do and I can not understand how this guy got to be a Capt. of a charter boat. I thought you have to have hours as a deckhand on a documented vessel to become a Capt. oH YEAH, I forgot there are schools that give all the answers to the test. WE will be sailing tonite at 6;30 and for info 908-930-2335.

It's either Dirty Shrimp (I thought his name was Steve) or another sponsor on this site.

I know it's not D. shrimp, the clues seem way too obvious in this thread. This is going to go south very quickly.

Looks like Down Deep just applied the frosting.

Capt Dan while i agree with your statements--i will tell you from
experience on these message boards--it's better to not put your business on these open forums. Bad for business and some will agree and others will hate you.
You can't win! Better to deal with it quietly and personally. Believe me as a jig maker i have helped some folks not to be named who now copied and sell tackle..used to drive me crazy..but those who fish with you, know your skills ,your pride in what you do, Your effort and professionalism and will stay with and support you.
Just because you where a helper and bought a pickup--doesn't make you a carpenter. He bought a boat--he"ll never be a FISHERMEN!
Better off not letting the bottom feeders get to you.
Good fishing and calm seas Capt Ron!

Dan, your one of the hardest working PB Capt. I know. Your always the first to the boat, cut bait & tie rigs & you truly care if people catch fish. Down the road this SB will get his, cause what goes around comes around. If he can't find fish on his own he's not going to have much of a business, it won't take long for people to see him for what his is. Your a class act & he's got less than no class.

Funniest part of this thread is seeing a reply from another boat here who fished so close to us fluking shadowing our drifts , then fishing those drifts daily for weeks.

I really enjoyed swinging 5 pounders in while his charters caught dinks right next to us. wondering why they kept getting snagged.

Guess there was more to it than just being in the area, and actually knowing what you were fishing by

Re: Fishermen/ You gotta read this

As this thread continues to devolve, I have a legitimate question.

What is the expectation when voluntarily taking someone out fishing on your vessel either for hire/fare or otherwise? I think it's fair to say no one should use any GPS of any kind, but short of that, you bring the fox into the henhouse at your own risk. Do we truly believe we "own" spots in the bay/ocean? Do we revert to 70s Batman genre where we blindfold fares/guests to the spot and then give then a shot a Bat Amensia Mist before heading back to the barn?

Unfortunately, there are lines of etiquette to be followed, which are less clear for some, but there is also the initial expectation which starts with the invite on the front end.
