2 Ganesh from the North Branch of the Raritan river in Branchburg. There was a 3rd one but someone smashed it with a rock.

They put them in the water to keep the water pure and plentiful.

I read that the subject event @ Johnson Park, was done legally, with all the necessary permits.

And,

“Please note that due to environmental concerns permission is granted to only dip the murtis (Ganesha statues) in the river and then taken out for recycling. All this will be done by authorized personnel only. Individuals persons are not allowed to approach the river.”
