September 18th Striped bass report 44 POUNDER !! - Johnny Bucktails

Yesterday was one of those days that i will never forget. Left the dock around 3:10pm with dad and had plans to fluke fishing for a few hours. I asked dad to grab some bass gear just incase the fluke fishing didn't work out. We fluked for about an hour and a half of the end of the incoming tide which was not very productive. With bunker in sight i asked the lip if he wanted to try for bass. One throw of the net and we were off. Got to the spot at slack tide and did not see much life. Made a little drift with the light breeze and all of a sudden i felt what most would think to be a tiny fluke hit or something. Kept it there and thirty seconds later i set the hook on a monster. She did not want to stop and took some serious line. Dumped my reel about 3 solid times before i brought her boat side. When i saw the beast i almost had a heart attack especially when it didn't want to fit in the net at first. Got her in the net and put her on the boga. Pulled it down to 44 pounds !!!! Like i promised you all, i let her go to fight again. I got to watch my second biggest striper swim away and i have it on video as well. She was a little beat up and had cuts all over her tail. Another day that the lip and i will never forget.

Johnny Bucktails,

Nice fish and video. In the spring obviously you see spawners with tails marks but nothing like on that fish. Anyone have any thoughts on what caused abrasions on that fish. Could that be from a dragger? That was brutal, never saw a fish so beaten up before. Even worse when it's a trophy fish. Just wondered what others thought may have caused that.

Johnny, Nice FISH. REMEMBER always let the big girls go. I have 2 young boys and that is the only way to insure that they can catch a trophy bass when they get older. LET THEM SWIM. Great Catch!
