Need a new fluke/sea bass jigging rod
 

this past monday, my buddy broke my favorite jigging rod while yanking on it trying to free a rig from the sticky stuff. (I didn't holler "STOP" in time).

I'm looking for a conventional rod that will handle 20-30 lbs line and up to 8 oz of weight at the end. I'm good for the 1-3 oz rigs, got plenty of rods that do that just fine. I'll be putting an old Daiwa Sealine 47H on it, as that was what was on the broken rod and I really like the reel.

Mainly fishing Raritan bay and coastal waters around the hook, 20 to 100' of water.

Any suggestions?

Shimano has a Trevalla 5' 8" rod that will handle up to 10 oz. I used one this pass weekend dragging 8 oz, and it worked great, and I landed numerous fluke including 8 keepers.

Or Jersey Coast.......I go back and forth between my Bogan and Jersey Jigger....depending on results of my last trip. LOL

Jersey Coast is using nano carbon & nano composite rod blanks..... The nano composite blanks take a beating and offer more sense of security when it comes to things like what you just explained.

Stay away from graphite jigging rods, no matter how lightweight they claim to be.... they are not made for the type of fishing we do here in NJ.

A 250 gram rod is ideal for the range your asking for and the parabolic rod blanks are also going to allow the jigs in that size range to also work better, without you having to do much.
These specialty jigging rods do 2 things...:
1- Whip the fish and not the angler.
2 - Allow the jigs to work much better due to the rod action and recoil associated within a certain size range. 6-8 ozs that your talking here.... perfect for that 250 gram rod size.

I like my trevala 66mh - handles up to 8oz with no problem Last week I even caught some 4/5/b fluke with 10oz jigs in a 2.7 knot drift

Check out the new Penn Battalion inshore rods.
IF there is a better bucktail rod for fluke fishing I havent seen it.

They have just released them for sale, September 1rst.

They are the first rods that I have fished to make my Lami's no longer my go to rods
