Think Again
Yellowfin. You would no if it was a bigeye as it would have fought much harder and be more of a football shape Nice catch |
Re: Tuna id
its a yellowfin

Re: Tuna id
All Yellowfin...couple differences between yellow and big eye. Easiest identifier is the yellow has elongated second dorsal and anal fin. Smaller yellows dont have the long fins yet so second identifier is the vertical lines. The yellows pattern is a combo of lines and spots where the bigeye has a solid vertical line patern. Finally there is the liver, the yellow liver is plain in appearance and the bigeye has striations or visible streaks.
Nice catch |

Yellowfin.... Nice catch!
Pec fins don't extend past anal fins to be a bigeye. Check liver if still unsure. Check out other i.d. marks at this site. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/mspcont1.asp |
Re: Tuna id
Well. Originally thawt they were yellow. But had like 10 guys tell me bigeye. The 1st one boated in 17 minutes. The second was over an hour. Broke everyone on the boats back. He was a bull.
But I guess yellows they are. Looked at ids on a website and it is pretty hard to tell difference. But noticed yft has a different tail and these do have that tail. Anyway. Appreciate feedback. Thanks all |
