Fall Trout Stocking schedule

Why do they stock in Colonial Lake? Between the cormorants and the shallow muddy water it is a waste of 450 fish. Rosedale Lake only getting 170, should get those 450 going into Colonial. |
Re: Fall Trout Stocking schedule
There are plenty of duck poop infested ponds that get stocked and I always wonder why.
I was told that they need to spread the wealth for everyone whopurchases a license. The states job is to stock it not keep em alive after |
Re: Fall Trout Stocking schedule
Sad but TRUE
there are probably many ponds across NJ that get spring stockings with most fish succumbing to predators or hot water and die by July. Most never are caught by anglers targeting them. NJ Dave is correct that it is all about stocking where license are sold. I brought this issue up with AndyS last year at the annual trout stocking meeting and he mentioned as much. Stocking 400+ trout in a pond that is completely choked with weeds by June (a pond near me comes to mind), having only a handful caught seems like a waste. Not sure if any metrics are obtained on these type of stockings? A repeat in the fall of the same operation seems a waste. |
Re: Fall Trout Stocking schedule
This stocking schedule for broods stock seems to indicate a cautious approach on the hatcheries part.
I don't blame them for these stocking schedules since just in case there might be issues with the larger fish they r stocking where they surely will not effect prime waters ! Now it's certainly better being safe than sorry, I'm sure their doing their very best to get the program back on track ! I'll be fishing all winter in between tog trips weather permitting ! |
Re: Fall Trout Stocking schedule
I always wonder about stocking these muddy weed choked duck ponds. I think the majority of the people that fish them do not even purchase a fishing
license nor a trout stamp. |

Re: Fall Trout Stocking schedule
even though not choked or muddy I wonder why Hammonton Lake gets stocked... be curious if they ever get a return from that place

Just sayin' :D |
Re: Fall Trout Stocking schedule
The brood stock should have been spread out better. North Jersey should have a handful of ponds getting some fish.

Re: Fall Trout Stocking schedule
.
Look on the bright side, the more people who fish the local mud ponds, the fewer googans you have to contend with on the river. Those ponds probably have a decent rate-of-return since the trout have no choice but to hang out in the deeper section of the pond with dozens of baits right in front of their faces. . |
