Big lake up north

Going to fish Champlain next week. Just thought I'd make everyone jealous.

Kidding. Daytme Itll be smallies and pike. But, I'll be arriving Monday night and there's no way ill be able to sleep without doing some fishing. I figure ill head out in the dark and try for my first walleye. Anyone have experience with them in Champlain this time of year at night? Anything that could get me started would be great. Thanks.

I think a few guys from the board have been there. Be sure to let us know how you did when you return.

One place to try for walleye is under bridges and in channels to rivers or other passage ways. Also in channels that connects the main lake (Broad Sea and Inland Sea) to inner bays (the Gut, Alburg)

Go west out of the gut and turn north into the Broad Sea. A few miles north, you'll see where the Alburg Passage connects to the Broad Sea. We've caught a few walleye in those channels. The problem is that there are usually a bunch of boats there as well.

Fish the Alburg Passage for bass during the day.

1st let me wish you a great trip and lots of tite lines..However even though I've heard of quiet a few quality eyes being caught recently, most were caught by trollers..That being said walleyes are no where near the numbers that were there 30 years ago Now smallies and largemouth are present in really great numbers..I'd be willing to bet nite angling for bass would be 1st rate and u may hang the best bass of the trip after dark..Just my 2 cents worth..BTW unless u really know your way around the lake, nite fishing can be dangerous..Close to shore angling until your familiar with the waters in your area mite be advisable,,,Either way best of luck to u...

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll try those spots around the bridges, and I'll definitely be going for bass after dark as well. I only have 2 full days up there so I'll want to cram in all the fishing I can. Hopefully this time next week I'll be posting pics of some big Lake Champlain pike and smallmouth.

Pay attention to the winds. They get big and bad up there and even in thinner areas, waves pick up fast and hard.
