Finally Wipers!
 

Thanks to advice from some folks on this board, G-man finally got a wiper at LH!
We had another one rip a rod out of the boat and take off -- lost the rod and the fish! Another stripped a light rod and broke the line. Also caught a bunch of white perch, catfish, a largemouth and a perch.

Sweet catch... Years ago I too had a wiper steal a pole my grandfather gave me, I'm still not over it!

good job, glad to see it all came together!! Smile on the kids face is priceless, awesome. hybrids are the hardest fighting freshwater fish, rods gotta be in rod holders. u are guaranteed to lose a rod having it in the boat, even with the bail open.

Congrats on finally bagging one. Sucks about losing the rod/fish, expensive lesson, but these are no Panfish you are targeting. They are pretty much the Porsche 911 Turbo of NJ freshwater fishing. Appropriate tackle and a finely tuned drag are a must. The first one is always the hardest, so catch em up :).

Luckily it was a cheap Dicks Sporting Goods spinning combo special. I think the $40 is actually worth the story G-man gets to tell about the huge one that got away with the rod.

Last year was pretty good almost everyone who showed caught that day and this fall should be even better!!!!

Dale we're gonna kill em this year, and the lake will be full pool so we can have a nice shore lunch and get back to fishing for the die-hards stayin out all day. I hate to say it but fall cant get here fast enough for me hahahahha
