Tuesday Fluke + AHMH "sinking..." Picture

Took my last final today and was out of school by 12. My dad took a half a day and we went down to AHMH around 2ish. Made our way to where we've been catching them ocean side and were quickly awarded with a keeper around 22.5". Picked with a lot of shorts and sand sharks for another 2 hours until we finally got another keeper around the same size. Picked through some more short action and decided to call it a day around 6:30. Fishing was still promising as we left but my dad was too tired to fish :confused: .

When we left there the marina was a pretty large boat probably 36' with a fly bridge run aground on the pilings to left of the marina. When we left it was just floating but when we came back near the peak of low tide it was a couple feet in the around floating on the pilings. Hope everyone was okay and that they can salvage the boat, going to be tricky trying to get it out of there if the hull is punctured.

*Sorry for the sideways pictures, they were upright on my photo but sideways when I uploaded them*

Nice way to end school spending time w/ dad catching fish. Counting the days until school is out! Hope everyone is OK on that boat too. Tight lines.

O Captain! My Captain!
BY WALT WHITMAN
O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
The arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

Had to throw that in there, hope all is well, no pun intended, but this poem really came to mind...

Those piles are getting popular - gonna have to start calling it "Dry Dock"

Those pilings are left over from the dock in Atlantic Highlands where steam ships and trains used to pick up visitors, mostly from NYC and deliver them to the beach clubs along Sea Bright and Long Branch area.

IMHO they should be marked better since at high tide they are just under water.

They did make some improvements in marking them a few years ago and now have red channel markers along the south side leading you clear of the pilings. Problem is if you are approaching from the north or west there are no markers. Should be some white obstruction buoys there on the north/west side outlining the perimeter. Like where the yellow highlight is on this chart.

Every time I pass this I still can't believe that those pilings aren't removed or marked better than they are. I've seen MANY boats run through there and get damaged or stuck. Something should be done before someone gets hurt or killed....just say'n

Really good striper fishing there every Autumn but be prepared to lose tackle.

High and dry.... it's become the AH Harbor attraction. You could probably do a sunset cruise around it and sell the boat out. :rolleyes:

If only there was a recent contract to repair the AHM and someone thought to include removal of these useless pilings. Hmmmmmm....:rolleyes:
