Transom Replacement
I am going to replace the transom on my 22 foot Stratos Cuddy. The hull is 1995 and I am going to hang a new 250 E-tec on the back. Just prior to my former engine puking a cylinder I replaced the electronics and while installing the transducers found the transom was FULL of water. My questions are: synthetic vs wood. I am 52 and I am sure the wood repair done correctly will out live me. And secondly where do you recommend finding Glass, resins etc to do the repair. I have a good supplier of MG plywood locally here in PA.
Thanks! Doc |

Re: Transom Replacement
I just replaced the transom on my boat using two sheets of marine plywood. I used 3M 5200 to glue the sheets together. I decided against using it to glue the transom to the boat though because that stuff doesn't let go once it's set.

Re: Transom Replacement
Found the resin and other materials at James Town Distributers. Nice folks, had what I needed and saved me a bunch on shipping. Got my thru hull fittings at Hamilton Marine in Maine.
I have 98% of the grinding and wood removal done and all the plumbing is out. Ordered the motor yesterday and I have a buddy coming over Saturday to start reassembly. I will post pictures of the project when completed. |
Re: Transom Replacement
