boating accident

Guy in a bass boat hit a submerged telephone pole.Broke his collerbone and a gash in the back of his head.Motor ripped off the boat and cowling came into the boat and cut his head.Buddy and I were able to tow the pole into shore.
Be careful out there guys.

This kind of mostly-submerged floating stuff can be deadly if you don't see it.
About 10 years ago, out in Sandy Hook Bay I was running my 21 foot Grady White up on a plane at about 40 MPH. Suddenly, I heard a Tonk-Tonk sound as the bow of the boat hit something, and then the outboard (225 Yamaha) skeg hit something. After a quick assessment that there was no major damage, and that we weren't sinking, I circled back to see what I hit. It was the front door of a house. It appeared to be solid wood, and was painted a blue-green color. Since it was heavy it was floating almost even with the water surface and was almost invisible. The fact that I was up on a plane allowed me to sort of slide over the door, but I got a pretty good ding in the outboard's skeg.

I think I really lucked-out that day!
