Opening Day Report
This year I decided to stay local, and hit up a pond where some bonus broodstock was thrown in. I showed up about 5 minutes to 8:00 and the place was railed with townies! I found a spot to squeeze into, and over the next three hours I landed three browns, a perch, and two ~2 lb. largemouths. Action was pretty steady, with most everyone catching at least a few fish. Once the sun got high and the wind started honking the bite really slowed, so I went home, took a nap, had dinner, and then went back to fish the evening bite. The morning crowd had vanished, and I landed two brown in just over an hour. Most fish came on jerkbaits, except for one of the bass which hit a Panther Martin, of all things. I couldn't connect with any breeders, and I only saw two landed the whole day, so they are definitely still in there. I may swing by after work a couple nights this week to see if I can't get lucky.
Another opening day in the books. Not great, but I've definitely had worse. |
Re: Opening Day Report
Another one in the books with some fish caught. Not a bad day.

Re: Opening Day Report
Funny, sounds like the Exact same day that I had. Right down to only 2 breeders being caught. Oh, and minus the bass, lol.
Later in the day I saw a 16/17in bow caught. Not sure if it was considered a big stockie or a small breeder but all the broodstock caught seemed to be bows. Def not a 5+ pounder though. |
Re: Opening Day Report
I saw 2 5 lb rainbows pulled out of a Monmouth county pond yesterday. This pond wasn't on the broodstock list either. One on a spinner and one on a fat head.
