Avet MXL for Fluke

What do you think about this reel for fluke? I just got a great deal on one and a Lami rod.

MXL will work for fluke and bottom jigging. The SX is the more popular choice being that it's a little smaller and lighter, but if you're cool with the reel and feel comfortable with it, it will work just fine.

The mxl is just a little bigger then the sx but it will work fine for fluking as well as other fish... and it's still smaller then alot of other reeIs I see guys fluking with

I have the MXL and love it, but personally prefer the smaller SX for fluke (I typically use my MXL for bass and/or deeper water stuff.). But like the guys said above, an MXL will work just fine -- if you are comfortable with it, then go with it...

Thanks for the input. From what I have seen on the internet, it seems like a very versital reel. It looks like it can be used for Fluking to light tuna fishing.

For the money, Avet makes a great reel. They are easy to tear down and reassemble and with proper maintenance, you'll get years of service from your MXL. Good luck with your purchase, you won't be disappointed.

Picked up an MXL a few weeks back, nice reel. do like and prefer my SX and SXJ versions for the fluking but could see this as a good alternative. Will probably use for other, larger species more often....

Heard Avet changed bearing companies! Good! I use my MXL for fluke , tog, and bass and it holds enough line for deep water. Best of luck with it!

I use my MXL for the heavier jigs when it calls for. I keep it on a beefier pole when its really rippin out there. SXJ is set up with lighter tackle for those more fair weather days. I switched to the Avet after being taken to task by a LARGE fluke on an Abu, so I 'm sold! Good luck

I sure hope so! MX's do just fine for everything from inshore fluke to offshore seabass/cod.
