Rahway River Bonus Trout

Adding to the 3,000 more trout for the season that will be going into the Rahway River ( compared to last year) an additional 4,000 trout will be stocked in a relatively short stretch below St. George's Ave. for pre-season. That's a helluva lot of trout for there. That stretch currently has good water flow with easy access and it looks very fishy. The trout should be fin to fin and provide lots of action. I'm surprised it has never been stocked before. I'm guessing there will be lots of elbow room. There will be lots of trout to be had in Union County this spring. In addition, almost 1,000 trout will be stocked in tiny Warinanco Park Pond for opening day. Get your Union County trout on!

Below St. George :) I just moved to Rahway that's my backyard. I usually go to Echo if I go out opening day. How is Warinaco? Anytime I've fished there it turned into a lake cleanup trip reeling in garbage.

If you are new to the area and like still water fishing, try Milton Lake in Rahway. If you want to try some water with a flow, try that stretch below St. George's Ave. That section will only be stocked one time prior to the season. Spinners like Mepps, Rooster Tails, Vibrex, etc should do well there. Drifting worms looks like another effective method. Warinanco Pond will only be stocked once right before opening day. Once the water warms up, the catfish will feast on the dead trout that might be left. Still, it's close and easily accessible.

I'm from union/springfield and fished Nomahegan and that section of the Rahway River often. Time to start doing some recon and find the fishy spots in the new neighborhood. I work 7 days a week mostly so I have small windows to fish and having somewhere close is huge.

Where does the Rahway start to get salty? I'm sure there has to be a few spots close with a chance and some Striped ones

Rahway gets salty at the Elizabeth ave bridge and downstream. That's all I can tell you dude. I grew up on that river. I was around when the great company Merck was throwing there dead test monkeys in the river in the early 80's. There are some very large Carp and Cats in the Rahway tidal section.

Thanks man I'm right off Elizabeth Ave. Time to put in the time and learn the river. I'm use to fishing lakes time to search the board for tips on reading rivers and finding fishy spots.
